How to Make Recycled Newspaper Bags ♻️📰
In today’s consumer society, the amount of household waste we produce every day far exceeds the planet’s ability to recycle it — especially plastic materials derived from petroleum.
It’s common for supermarkets and shops to wrap products in plastic bags, which are difficult to recycle and harmful to the environment.
That’s why we’re showing you a simple, eco-friendly, and creative way to make your own bags using recycled newspaper.
🧰 Materials You’ll Need
- Newspaper sheets
- Thick paper or cardboard (poster board)
- Scissors and a craft knife
- White glue (paper adhesive)
- A piece of recycled cardboard (from an old box)
- A cord or string at least 3 mm thick
All of these materials can be found easily in any craft or DIY store.
🪶 Step-by-Step: How to Make Recycled Paper Bags
1️⃣ Cut the pieces.
Cut one rectangle of poster board and two pieces of newspaper of the same size. For a bag about 15 cm tall, follow the proportions shown below.

2️⃣ Fold the pieces.
Fold the cardboard and newspaper pieces as shown in the image. This will form the basic structure of your bag.

3️⃣ Glue the layers together.
Glue the newspaper sheets on both sides of the cardboard to make the structure stronger.
4️⃣ Seal the bag.
Fold and glue the sides as if you were wrapping a gift, using white glue for a firm hold.

5️⃣ Reinforce the base.
Place a piece of cardboard at the bottom of the bag to make it stronger and more stable.

6️⃣ Add the handles.
Make two small holes at the top. Reinforce them with tape, eyelets, or small washers to prevent tearing. Thread the cord through and tie a knot at each end.

🌍 Why Make Your Own Recycled Bags?
- Reduce your use of single-use plastics.
- Create durable, reusable, and customizable bags.
- Encourage environmental awareness among children and family members.
You can also decorate your bags with stamps, ribbons, or drawings to make each one unique and personal.
